The AAA Texas 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway is coming to town. The eighth race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, a make-or-break event on the march to the championship. Tony Stewart turned victory in the AAA Texas 500 into the key point on the timeline to the 2011 Sprint Cup championship.

Stewart set the pace for 173 tours of “The Great American Speedway!” and capitalized when leader Jeff Burton ran out of fuel with five laps remaining. Stewart bested title contender Carl Edwards by 1.092 seconds at the checkered flag for his second Lone Star State Sprint Cup victory.
Some of you may remember that this race is featured in the 2006 film Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby where on the last lap Ricky Bobby spins out with Jamie McMurray and McMurray continues but Bobby puts the car in reverse and wins backwards. The filming was actually at Charlotte Motor Speedwaywith the wall painted to look like Texas.
The race has always started in the late afternoon, go through sunset and twilight, and ended under the lights at night. It is not considered a scheduled night race or even a night event.
In addition, get ready to get muddy from 4-10 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, at the Texas Motor Speedway dirt track. The facility will be transformed into a military-style obstacle course where competitors will run, climb, jump and sprint to the finish in an event that will benefit the Armed Forces Foundation, Kurt Busch Foundation, and Speedway Children’s Charities.
The Busch-Whacked event will feature NASCAR drivers, crew members and media personalities. Also other registered participants not only vying for the title of Fastest Individual (male and female) or Fastest Team, but will put their creativity to the test as they battle for Best Costume too.
